Scope and Contents

The Albert H. Marckwardt Papers includes extensive and valuable files of his correspondence and research reports. The Marckwardt gift enables students, faculty, and visiting researchers to find in the Georgetown library a very comprehensive body of books, journals, and other material on English language and linguistics.

Mrs. Marckwardt (Maybelle Davis, '67 MS) has given to the library a collection of several thousand linguistics books and journals assembled by the late Professor Marckwardt.

Conditions Governing Access

Letters of recommendation and exams are restricted. Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Collections stored off site require a minimum of three days for retrieval. For use of all manuscripts collections, researchers are advised to contact the Booth Family Center for Special Collections in advance of any visit.
