Scope and Contents
The collection is comprised of photographs that were used in Quigley Publications, active under various titles since 1915 in motion picture industry trade publishing (Motion Picture Herald, Motion Picture Daily, and others). It is primarily an assemblage of publicity photographs that feature individuals associated with the motion picture industry: producers, directors, animators, and their colleagues. Actors and actresses figure less prominently, but are also represented among the approximately 55,000 black-and-white photographs and 3,500 negatives ranging in date from about 1906 to 1972. The collection also includes a smaller number of photographs devoted to motion picture studios, theaters, and equipment.

Conditions Governing Access
Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Collections stored off site require a minimum of three days for retrieval. Banks WInter, famous mistrel man who has just celebrated in Hollywood his fifty-third aniversary as a burnt cork funmaker. Winter's career has been used as the theme for "The Minstrel Man" which Norman L. Sper and George R. Rogan has written as a special epic talking picture for Universal. He is the composer of the famous old song "White Wings". During his minstrel hey-day he has been associated with Chauncey Olcott, Charles Frohman, Jack Haverly, Will Rogers, Fred Stone and others. Winter comes from an illustrious family. Admiral Van de Winter, who was aide-de campe to General George Washington, is the founder of the Winter family in America. Henry Clay, C.C. Clay, General John B. Gordon, Theodore Roosevelt and former Governor Comer of Alabama ome from the same family.
