Eastern European Trip., 7/7/1969.
Scope and contents note
The Edward Weintal Papers document the career of Edward Weintal, a Polish diplomat and long-time writer for the periodical "Newsweek." In addition to a few personal documents, there is a set of subject files maintained by Weintal on various topics. Materials regarding Charles Bartlett and the book "Facing the Brink: An Intimate Study in Crisis Diplomacy" (New York: Scribner, 1967), which Weintal co-authored with Bartlett, are contained among these papers. Of particular importance is a long run of detailed typed dispatches dated 1941 to 1965 written by Weintal concerning key international diplomatic issues from that era. Invitations received by Weintal, notebooks kept by him, and printed materials are also present. Finally, a few of Weintal's scrapbooks containing clippings about his career are preserved in this collection. The Edward Weintal Papers are stored in 20 boxes (10.75 linear feet).
The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service sponsors an annual Weintal Prize for Diplomatic Reporting.
