Container Summary
1 ALS from JDM to Dr. Emil Puhl, director of the Reichsbank (2 May 1939) and 1 TLS from Puhl to JDM (4 May 1939). The letter from JDM to Puhl is a request for a confidential meeting between Puhl and Joseph Kennedy, Amercian Ambassador to England. The letter from Puhl to JDM concerns Helmuth Wohlthat, a member of Goering's staff responsible for Germany's "Four Year Plan." This letter contains a separate sheet of information on Wohlthat and his business card. Arrangements were finally made for Helmuth Wohlthat to meet with Kennedy. Since Kennedy could not get permission from the White House to attend the meeting in Paris, Wohlthat agreed to meet with him in London. (see folder for accounts of the meeting). The contents in this folder and the next are from a special envelope designated by Mooney to be kept in a safe (see next folder).
