Pierre Teilhard de Chardin Correspondence

 Series
Identifier: 332

Series-level Scope and Content Note

(Box 1, Folders 22 - 98) This series contains correspondence from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin to his long-time friend and fellow Jesuit, Pierre Leroy. Letters date from March 7, 1948 to April 4, 1955, just before the former's death. All letters have been previously published in 'Letters from My Friend, 1948-1955,' collected and introduced by Pierre Leroy and translated from the French with a preface by Mary Lukas. Four unpublished letters included in this collection are dated as follows: 2/19/50, 3/4/50, 3/21/52, 1/15/54. Published letters in this collection are indicated by 'LFMF' with the corresponding page number of the published book. The correspondence from Teilhard to Leroy is replete with discussions of his philosophy, personal confidences, thoughts on people he met and references to friends. As much as possible, references to individuals are indexed; however, because discussion of Teilhardian theories is so pervasive throughout the correspondence, only a few of the Teilhardian terms mentioned are reference here. Arrangement of the correspondence is chronological (one letter per folder).
