From the Series:

This series constitutes correspondence covering the Democratic National Convention for the election of Roosevelt to a third presidential term. The bulk of material dates from late 1938 through fall 1940. Folders have been maintained in their provenance; arrangement is alphabetical by surname. Content includes letters from the public in support of FDR, as well as poison pen letters, and correspondence from HLH's colleagues. Notable correspondence is itemized for each folder description. (Correspondence A-L, Box 2, Folders 1-13; Correspondence K-Z, Box 3, Folders 1-20)

Johnson was a Minnesotacongressman, House of Representatives. 1 TL carbon from "VM" (?) to HLH re. Baltimore Mayor Howard Jackson andalleged collaboration with Senator Millard E. Tydings, and Sen. GeorgeRadcliffe to ensure victory of Maryland State Democratic Convention, 1940.Includes newsclipping on the same. 1 TLS from Jesse H. Jones, chairman of board for Reconstruction FinanceCorporation and future US Secretary of Commerce (1941-1945), to HLH re.1938 elections in Georgia. Includes newspaper feature in "The George-ian"on campaign of Sen. Walter F. George (v.1, n.1, 8/1/1938) 2 TL carbons from Sam H. Jones, Governor of Louisiana requesting HenryWallace's presence to help "nip in the bud [the] Republican movement." 2 TLcarbons from HLH in reply.
