Ferdinand Kittell (Mar. 3, 1899) addresses the monks' beer trafficking; letter [from Rev. Ferdinand Kittell (July 28, 1892)] concerns the difficulty of getting priests to join a clerical total abstinence society; letter [from Rev. Ferdinand Kittell (Mar. 30, 1892)] makes reference to "sacerdotal speak-easies." It also relates efforts made to prevent the grant of a liquor license to a parishoner and the social repercussions of so doing; letter [from Rev. Kittell (June 21, 1892)] refers to responses made regarding allegations of abstinence impropriety by the clergy; letters [from Rev. Kittell (Sept. 17, 1894/Nov. 18, 1895)] allude to the clergy's attitudes concerning temperance; letter [from Rev.
