Dittmann] quotes material from an article concerning Martin J. Griffin and also gives mention of Griffin's paper "Griffin's Journal" and its admonitions against intemperance; letter [from Timothy Donovan to Mr. Griffin (Jul. 24, 1899)] alludes to views of "Griffin's Journal" in regard to the topic of temperance; letter ([from E.W. Doyle to Mr. Griffin (Aug. 15, 1898)] relates rumor of a Michigan bishop being threatened with removal from his post by Church authorities in Rome if he does not stop drinking to excess; letter [from John M. Doyle to Mr. Griffin (Oct. 27, 1902)] thanks Griffin for his role in helping divert money from the purchase of rum.
