Container Summary

14 TLS and 1 ALS from Francis J. Sheed, elected to the Gallery of Living Catholic Authors in 1932, to Sister Mary Joseph thank SMJ for Catholic Literary Award for "Theology and Sanity" and refer to SMJ's requests for letters and photos of authors, Maisie Ward's lectures in America, Christopher Dawson, Douglas Woodruff, Edward Watkin, Dorothy Day, Henri Lavedan, Marigold Hunt, Alma Savage, John Farrow, and Graham Greene. Includes TLS from Harold Gardiner, S.J., to Catherine Neale re: presentation of Sheed's award. Sheed apparently did not consider himself a member of the Gallery and declined to accept membership in 1952 since he considered his main work to be publishing rather than writing. Sister Mary Joseph, however, thought he had accepted membership in 1932 when he told her he would send her his photo.
