Physical Description
An Egyptian linen fragment from the Book of the Dead in Hieratic on papyrus, ca. 800 BCE. The fragment would originally have been part of the linen wrappings for a mummified body. On the bandage are written spells which were intended to aid the passage of a deceased soul through the underworld to attain a blissful afterlife in the Field of Reeds. The spells are written in Hieratic script in black ink. 130 x 20 mm. The documents in Box 1 Folder 1 (Demotic Business Document) and Box 1 Folder 2 (Egyptian Linen Fragment) are contained in Box 1 Folder 1.
