This series contains the correspondence of Susan Hamlin Stone (1801-1869). Susan was the daughter of Hannibal Hamlin (d. 1811) and Susan Faulkner Hamlin (d. 1840). She married William W. Stone (d. 1851) and had eight children.

Container Summary

Contains the correspondence sent by Rebecca Hamlin Farley to her sister Susan Hamlin Stone, 11 items. The subject of the correspondence is related principally to family matters, including thoughts on the death of their mother in 1840 and their brother Cyrus's second wife Harriet's death from apoplexy in 1857. There is also reference to the visit of her daughter Henrietta's current boyfriend, George Washburn. Washburn, who was a missionary, would leave for Constantinople shortly after the letter was written and eventually succeed Cyrus Hamlin as president of Robert College.
