Container Summary

Contains introductory portion of treatise on French military tactics. The author notes that particular attention will be paid to tactics relating to the infantry officer in the field. Reference is made to M. Le Duc de Castries, to whom the author seems to have dedicated this treatise. The material in this introductory section is divided according to several headings and subheadings, including: Encampment; "Grandes Gardes;" Redans; Redoubt; "Portes d'entree des Redoutes;" "Fascine;" Posts in the Open Country; "Garons;" Fortifying a bridgehead (?), and Breaching a Ford (?). A reference to Louis XVII is also included (p. 5).
