Contains typed manuscript for a journal maintained by Rice in 1948, 1 item. Of interest are entries regarding his associates, including Robert Gerdy, Eugene Williams, Ralph and Jean Gleason, Octave Romaine, and Thomas Merton; personal religious struggle; literary endeavors; film projects. May 21, 1949: I have just been looking at Merton's old journal again . . . I am overcome by nostalgia, sadness, the memories of the past. I think of the old enthusiasms we all had, of our dreams and plans, hopes of writing great books, plays, movies--and now of how we are all scattered around the world, caught in the very things we knew were instinctively were bad, although we did not know why.
