Container Summary

Handwritten notes, background material including relevant regulations and directives, and a copy of the final memorandum for Douglas J. Bennet on Warnke's relationship to the Pentagon Papers disclosed by Daniel Ellsberg in 1971. Also a memorandum by L. Niederlehner, Acting General Counsel of Department of Defense (DOD), on the subject of archival deposits in the light of the Nixon tapes case then under appeal. Copies of correspondence from John Tower and Strom Thurmond requesting copies of the DOD investigations of the disclosure and the positive replies of D. O. Cooke, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration.
