Container Summary
Briefing papers, memoranda, and associated correspondence. Of particular interest, a copy of a Paul Nitze paper on the Navy, requested by Warnke Also a major paper by Warnke, "Managing the Defense Department." A notice from Carter's Atlanta headquarters that membership on a task force does not make one a Carter spokesman. Finally a copy of a five-page Warnke letter to Carter following up on a meeting with Carter and Mondale. He tried to redirect thinking away from the "most unlikely" threat of a nuclear exchange toward real and unmet defense needs.
