Container Summary
Handwritten notes, memoranda for the President and Secretary of Defense Clark Clifford and multiple drafts of a letter for Clifford. Transcripts of speeches by Strom Thurmond in opposition to Fortas and a report on the morning session of hearings on Sep 13, 1968. The chief legal issue was how Clifford should respond to the request of Sen James O. Eastland of the Senate Judiciary Committee for his testimony without compromising executive privilege.
