1 Autograph Letter Signed dated 7/30/1868 from Peter J. Sullivan to U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward, regarding efforts to make a treaty with Colombia for a ship canal across the Isthmus of Darien or Panama. Reference to British interests, French interests in the canal. Sullivan requests to discuss with U.S. President Andrew Johnson the canal treaty. Sullivan also requests a successor to him in the post of U.S. Minister to Colombia. Sent from Bogota, Colombia to Washington, D.C.
