Sullivan, acknowledging receipt of dispatches and mentioning that he would like to help Caleb Cushing. Also, 1 Autograph Letter Signed dated 3/31/1869 from Peter J. Sullivan to E.P. Pellet, U.S. Consular Agent in Barrouquilla, Colombia, regarding the possibility of a ship canal at Darien. Reference to the opposition of the British to the Suez Canal and the Darien Canal and to the possibility of Panama separating from Colombia with U.S. aid. Reference to Lord Palmerston's opposition to the Suez Canal. Sent from Bogota, Colombia to Barrouquilla.
