Container Summary

1 Autograph Letter Signed dated 6/27/1868 from Peter J. Sullivan to James Madison Frailey, expressing pleasure that the U.S. Navy can protect Americans in Colombia. Sullivan refers to the murder of some American citizens in Cartagena on 9/1/1867. Sullivan notes that he is negotiating with the Colombian governmemt for the construction of a canal across the Isthmus of Darien. Reference to U.S. Admiral Thatcher. Sent from Bogota, Colombia to Frailey Commanding a U.S. Steamer in the Port of Panama.
