Container Summary
Jackson, Camp. Autograph Letter Signed from P. Wales, 2 pages, dated 1/25/1862, 2 pages. Enclosing a sketch [retained in this folder] of the 24-pound cannon captured by the 13th Massachusetts Regiment near Harper's Ferry at the battle of Bolivar on October 18, 1861 after it had been used against his troops. The Confederates tried to train the gun on a house being used by the Union soldiers. The cannon is huge. It requires 16 horses to pull it. It works best as a siege gun. The cannon is near Williamsport, Maryland sent by order of General Nathaniel P. Banks. Sent from Williamsport, Maryland on letterhead of HQ 13th Regt. Rifles, M.V., Co. C. Also, 1 Pen Drawing: "Camp Jackson. 145th Regt N.Y.S.V. Near Stafford, Va. (Col E. Livingston, Price) 12th Army Corps."
