Correspondence exchanged between Graham Greene, Shirley Hazzard and Francis Steegmuller, 1973 to 1990. Includes printed matter about Greene, including articles, newspaper clippings, exhibition and collection catalogs, as well as Greeneiana such as the menu from "Da Gemma's" restaurant in Capri (Folder 4:57); and the commemorative book of Greene's honorary citizenship of Capri (Folder 4:55).

Container Summary

TLS dated 2/28/1982 (with postmarked envelope) from Graham Greene to Francis Steegmuller. 1 page. Greene declines an invitation to write a travel article for the New York Times. Includes ALS dated 2/24/1982 to Francis Steegmuller from Arthur Gelb, deputy managing editor, New York Times. The primary concern of Greene's letter is reference to his launching an attack on the criminal milieu of Nice, an endeavor sparked by Greene's engagement in the divorce and child custody troubles of Martine Cloetta, daughter of Yvonne Cloetta. (cf. Folder 4:25 and related references to this event in Greene's life, especially in Norman Sherry's biography.)
