Container Summary

ALS + copy, dated 6/4/2001 to Shirley Hazzard from historian Andrew D. Roberts. 1 page. Reference to "Greene on Capri," and acquaintance with Belinda Straight, sister of Catherine Walston, whom Roberts met through his friendship with civil rights activist Virginia Durr (1903-1999). Also reference to a meeting between Hazzard, Francis Steegmuller and Roberts' mother, the writer Janet Adam Smith (1905-1999). Other items include: copy of ALS dated 8/11/2001, from Hazzard to Roberts with reminiscence of Janet Adam Smith; and a printed booklet (with postmarked envelope) of tributes honoring Smith, produced by Roberts (September 2000), inscribed by Roberts "To Shirley Hazzard." Contributors include (in publication order): Karl Miller, Roger Chorley, Val Arnold-Forster, Victoria Glendinning, Margaret Forster, Daniel Dombey.
