Container Summary

1 Typed Letter Signed dated 03/23/1978 from Mary A. Benjamin, to Rep. L. Richardson Preyer, asking Preyer to clarify his presidential records bill so federal possession of presidential records would extend to official, rather than personal, papers of the president, a move that would not harm the existing private market in historic manuscripts, letters and documents. Benjamin also asks Preyer for clarification on the date the bill would take effect if enacted, whether it would apply to only the incumbent president or to future presidents, and whether the bill would not be retroactive if enacted. This Letter also contains a handwritten note to Henry Bartholomew Cox from Benjamin, and attached to this Letter is a Typed Letter to Preyer.
