Container Summary

1 Typed Letter Signed dated 02/12/1975 from Rodney Armstrong, president of The Manuscript Society, to Henry Bartholomew Cox, informing Cox of a legal challenge from the State of North Carolina against B.C. West, Jr., for papers in West's possession. Armstrong also asks Cox for guidance on what position the Manuscript Society should take with regard to the challenge and what help it should offer West. Included with this letter were several documents, including 1 Typed Letter Signed from B.C. West, Jr., to Armstrong dated 02/07/1975, alerting Armstrong of a claim to two documents signed by William Hooper, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; 1 Typed Letter Signed from Grace J. Rohrer, State of North Carolina, Department of Cultural Resources, to West dated 02/03/1975, claiming two documents signed by Hooper; and 1 Typed Manuscript Signed from T. Buie Costen, Assistant Attorney General, to West dated 02/07/1975, seeking the return of the two Hooper documents. The Costen manuscript is in the form of a legal complaint filed in Pasquotank County (N.C.) Superior Court.
