Container Summary

Verney, Frederick W. and Maude S. Verney. Bound Letterbook titled, "Maritime Conference, 1889, Letters from Washington, F[rederick]. W. V[erney] and M[aude]. S. Verney." Typed copies of original letters. Forty one letters, three photographs, four newspaper clippings, a meeting notice from the Maryland Historical Society, a dinner menu, and the list of passengers on their ship back to England. Frederick Verney served as a representative to the International Maritime Conference of 1889 in Washington, D.C. The Varneys correspond in this letterbook with their relatives in England about travel to the conference, work at the conference, and everyday life in Washington, D.C. Purchased from Barry Cassidy Rare Books.
