Container Summary

1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 05/13/1879 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch enclosing a letter, not present, to be forwarded to Henry F. Gillig. He states that he will begin receiving payment from Charles Dickens, Jr. the following month with which he can pay installments on his debt to Gillig, and expresses his hope that Gillig will not chose to sell silverware belonging to Hawthorne but that, if necessary, he would rather pawn it. He reports that he has leased a house, with furnishings and a library, which belonged to a previous principal of King's College in London, and that he plans to rent rooms to help support his family. Reference to the pawnbroker George Attenborough, Dr. Richard William Jelf of King's College, Mrs. Bennoch, Alexander Strahan, the children's magazine "Peep-show", and "Saxon Studies".
