Container Summary

1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 12/22/1878 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch expressing his gratitude to both Bennoch and Russell Sturgis for some act of generosity regarding his debt to them, and mentioning a further generosity he has received from the New Church in London, where his children were christened. He explains to Bennoch why he cannot accept charity offered by an "unknown benefactor" and again gives an account of his family's thrift. Reference to Dr. Rudolph L. Tafel, May ("Minne") Hawthorne, Henry F. Gillig, mortgages he is selling in New York, and the American Consulate in London. Sent from Hastings, England.
