1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 01/21/1878 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch written on black-bordered mourning paper setting out his financial situation and what money he is owed by his various publishers. He describes his plan to ask Alexander Strahan to pay his life insurance premium and a loan installment in return for a promissory note. He goes on to state that if a sale of his possessions takes place, everything in the house will be sold. He remarks that, although he has not been well, he has earned 52 pounds for his work since Bennoch last visited and that Alexander Strahan had offered to help arrangement for paying his debt to McCorquodale & Co. in installments.
