Container Summary

1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 11/13/1877 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch written on black-bordered mourning paper describing Mr. McCorquodale's response to his letter of 11/09/1877 in which McCorquodale denied any partnership with Alexander Strahan and insisted on repayment of the advance Hawthorne had received for "Garth". Hawthorne mentions a mortgage he owns in New York which he plans to sell in order to satisfy his debt. Reference to Russell Sturgis, the Novomagians (the Noviomagus Club), the Hawthornes' seventh wedding anniversary, Octavian Blewitt, the Committee of the Royal Literary Fund, and Mrs. Bennoch. Sent from Way's End, Twickenham, England.
