Container Summary

1 Autographed Letter Signed (copy) dated 11/09/1877 from Julian Hawthorne to McCorquodale & Co. setting out the details of the failed contract between himself and Alexander Strahan for the writing and publication of the novel "Garth" which led to his indebtedness to McCorquodale & Co. for the amount of 250 pounds. Hawthorne explains his ignorance of the dissolved partnership between the firms of Strahan and McCorquodale and asks for an extension on repayment of the advance he had received to write the book. Sent from Way's End, Twickenham, England.
