Container Summary

1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 09/16/1877 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch written on black-bordered mourning paper relating details of the death of his sister Una at Clewer Convent and her burial at Kensal Green beside her mother's grave. He states his belief that she died as the result of a broken heart following the death of her fiance Albert Webster, Jr., and eulogizes her virtuous character. Reference to May ("Minne") Hawthorne, the Twickenham Railway Station, Mary Asphital, sister in charge of St. Andrew's Cottage at Clewer, a Windsor physician, Dr. Ellison, Henry Arthur Bright and his sister Mrs. A. M. Weir, and Mrs. Bennoch. Sent from The Croft, Hastings, England.
