Container Summary

1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 08/29/1877 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch informing him of his residence at the shore in Hastings, Sussex for the summer at the expense of an admirer of his father, Nathaniel Hawthorne. He presents his concern for his wife's health as his reason for accepting this generosity and goes on to praise Bennoch's new book of poems, "Poems, Lyrics, Songs and Sonnets", suggests that he contribute a review of the book to an American periodical, and offers advise as to which publishers are most trustworthy. Reference to Bennoch's poem "Sir Ralph de Rayne and Lilian Grey", "Appleton's Journal", the "Atlantic", and the publisher James R. Osgood. Sent from The Croft, Hastings, England.
