1 Autographed Letter Signed dated 02/21/1875 from Julian Hawthorne to Francis Bennoch, thanking him for sending money and complaining about his own difficulties in securing payment for work that had been submitted to publishers in contrast to the American practice of payment upon receipt. He discusses the difficulties of his wife in managing their household and mentions the titles of several of his works that are finished or in progress. Reference to his wife May ("Minne") Hawthorne, his children, his publisher Alexander Strahan, "Saxon Studies", his short story "The Bronze Angel", the publication "Evening Hours", "Harper's Magazine", his novel "Garth", Mr. Maple, the baptism of his son John Francis Bennoch Hawthorne, Francis Bennoch's homeopathic physician, and Mrs. Bennoch.
