Container Summary

1 ALS dated 6/12/2002 from Ken Thompson to Michael Richey thanking him for the gift of a book by Rene Hague. *1 ALS from Richey to Nicholas Scheetz describing the Thompson letter: "The gift in question was "The Story of Ammon" with an engraving by Eric Gill of which 225 copies were printed in 1930. It is described in Sotheby's catalogue of the sale of Joan and Rene's Gill/Jones stuff on 11/9/1981. Ken, for whom I have the greatest affection and admiration, was at one stage engaged to Rene's daughter (and my god-daughter) Rosalind and there is a touching letter from him about Rene's death and funeral." 1 ALS dated 9/26/1998 (with envelope) from Thompson to Richey with reference to his daughter Katy, Rene Hague, John Skelton, David Jones, Harriet Frazer. *from Richey's notes: The letter is from "Ken Thompson, stone-carver and letter cutter. This summer I sailed Jester to Crosshaven in Co. Cork and with my crew Dave Nash, went over to have supper with Ken, accompanied by my god-daughter Rosalind Erangey (nee Hague), a grand-daughter of Eric Gill. Katy, the child Ken refers to at the beginning was his youngest daughter - aged then I should say about 10-11, suffering from an inoperable brain tumor. She is now dead. Ken and his wife Rachel with Katy were just back from Lourdes...I have known and admired Ken since his childhood, first when he was at Worth and later Downside with my nephews and later when he became friendly with Joan and Rene Hague who owned Shanagarry House." 1 ALS dated 11/11/1998 from Thompson to Richey thanking him for his sympathy.
