Container Summary

1 Ordination Card dated 6/8/1938 for Fr. Denis Warrington, printed "Ad Presbyteratum Ordinatus Postridie Sacrum Fecit." 1 b/w Photograph of the drawing. Drawing done by David Jones, engraving by Eric Gill. *From Richey's notes: "Denis Warrington was a monk of the Trappist Monastery of Mount St. Bernard, Leicestershire. I was at Downside with the younger Warrington Brother, Peter, through whom I got to know Denis. He had an interesting history, a considerable scholar at Oxford, he was known above all for his riotous style of living. I had asked Gill (at Denis's suggestion) to engrave the card and he asked David Jones to make a drawing which was photographically transferred to a wood block and engraved by Gill. The drawing is much more lively. I remember Gill saying to me, looking at the gulls, 'I wish I could do that.' Either E.G. or D.J. gave me the drawing." A typed manuscript by Richey regarding this drawing is contained in Box 1 Folder 53 of this collection.
