In addition to the Arabia and The Empty Quarter materials, the Harry St. John Bridger Philby Collection contains two annotated carbon manuscripts of "The Background of Islam: Being a Sketch of Arabian History in pre-Islamic Times."

Container Summary

Typed manuscript of H.St.J.B. Philby's "Arabia" (1930) composed of both carbon and original typed pages by Philby. The manuscript has extensive hand notations and corrections by Philby and two additional editors. Two pages are stamped by the book's printer, Ricard Clay & Sons Limited, Bungay, Suffolk, with Philby's printed ownership stamp on the front board.
