Parsons, Rev. Robt A., SJ: German P.O.W. Camp Catholic Religious Matte., 07/03/1943-12/31/1944
Series-level Scope and Content Note
This includes office files and routine correspondence as well as baptismal and marriage forms on soldiers and their intended brides. Because there was a large hospital as part of Camp Blanding, Florida, where most of this originated, there was a large female component and more marriages than on regular posts. There is substantial correspondence with the Military Ordinariate in New York, the Diocese of St. Augustine, and parish priests throughout the country. There is a series of monthly reports from the chaplain's office, both to higher military headquarters and to the Military Ordinariate, a Catholic entity in New York under Cardinal Spellman's control. There is limited material on the welfare of the troops, and one folder on the provision of religious services to the German Catholic P.O.W.s whose compound was adjacent to Camp Blanding.
