Collection-level Scope and Content Note

From the Collection:

The William Robinson, Jr. Papers contain retained letterbook copies of letters concerning Robinson's mission in 1842 to obtain a loan in Europe on behalf of the United States. Several letters by U.S. President John Tyler are present, and they deal with Robinson's appointment, the authorization for the loan, and notification of American envoys in Europe of Robinson's quest. Several letters by Robinson to U.S. Treasury Secretary Walter Forward update his progress and document his activities. In addition, there are numerous letters of introduction for Robinson sent to London, Paris, and Amsterdam. The collection is stored in one small archival box (0.25 linear feet).
