Container Summary

6 AJE dated 11/9/1834-11/15/1834 containing JPB's account of the trial of a man who was accused of poaching, which he and Henry Sheldon witnessed (p.261). He expresses his contempt for the French legal system because of its lack of habeas corpus and disorganization. Also mentioned these entries are more of JPB's social activities, including a night at the opera with the Livingstons, his current literary conquest, The Last Days of Pompeii by Edward Bulwer Lytton, and reflections on the nature of good versus evil. Pages 244-264 Pages 244-245 are torn out.
