5 AJE dated 8/5/1834-8/9/1834 describing JPB's activities during his first few days back in Paris and including a complete recap of his European tour. He also comments on the success and fortune of Thomas Barton, Secretary of Legation and son-in-law to Edward Livingston. JPB blames himself for his own failure to achieve prominence and compares himself to Ahasverus, the Wandering Jew. Pages 63-72
