Correspondence to Katherine Biddle from Allen Tate as Library of Congress Chair of Poetry: 6 TLS dated 3/20/1944, 5/17/1949, 10/2/1949, 3/31/1950, 4/11/1950, 1/23/1951; ALS dated 11/5/1954. Reference to Biddle and other Fellows of the Library of Congress in American Letters whose comments were invited by the Saturday Review of Literature on the awarding of the 1948 Bollingen Prize in Poetry to Ezra Pound; and to subsequent debate by the Fellows as to whether or not the prize should continue to be judged and awarded by the Library of Congress. Regarding the matter, includes memorandum 9/23/1949, signed by Allen Tate and Willard Thorp; TLS 9/19/1949 from Thorp and Tate to Luther Evans; typed Report of the Committee for the Bollingen Prize signed by Leonie Adams, chairman, 2/4/1949; and newspaper clippings (1950) re Librarian of Congress Luther Evans' comments on the awarding of the 1948 prize to Pound. Also includes ALS 6/19/1949 (4 pages/2 sheets) from Tate to Alexis Leger re Katherine Biddle's statement to the SRL.
