1 ALS from John McHarg (1813-1884) to his brother Rufus McHarg, discussing the chances of the Union army on reaching Richmond, Virginia. References to the 25th New York, the Second Maine, the 13th New York, Yorktown (Virginia), Elbert Bland, controlling the Richmond Central Railroad, Nathaniel P. Banks, and John McHarg's life insurance policy. A Confederate envelope, which contains a printed poem on its front side, is enclosed. Sent from "Gaine's Hill" [sic: Gaines' Mill] Virginia, 9 miles from Richmond, Virginia.
