Reference to the 2nd Maine, the 18th Massachusetts, the 50th New York near Alexandria (Virginia), Daniel Butterfield (commanding 3rd Brigade, Porter's Division, Army of the Potomac), Fitz-John Porter, and managing in cold weather. Includes lengthy description of Robert E. Lee's former home Arlington House being used as a depot for quarter master stores except clothing and tents. Sent from Quarter Master's Department, 1st Brigade, Porter's Division, Halls Hill, Virginia.
