Container Summary

1 ALS from John William McHarg (b. 1843) to his brother Henry McHarg, reporting on war news. He describes a Union camp and a trip to Washington, D.C. and mentions that he has seen the Ellsworth Regiment. Sent from Halls Hill, Virginia. The same document contains 1 ALS from John to his Mother, with discussion of Maria and Sophie becoming nurses and a reference to Horace Porter. Also, 1 ALS (in red ink) from John McHarg (1813-1884), who speaks of having his photograph taken by Mathew Brady in Washington, to his son Henry McHarg, that includes a reference to Stewart Van Vliet.
