Container Summary
1 AL (copy) dated 3/4/1844 from Washington Irving (1783-1859), U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846), to Commodore Matthew C. Perry (1794-1858), Commander of the U.S. Navy's African Squadron, in reference to Perry's complaints about the quarantine regulations in the Canary Islands. Irving mentions being ill and reports that he expressed Perry's views on the quarantine issue to the Spanish government. Irving wishes Perry "pleasant and prosperous cruizings and all manner of prosperity." Sent from Madrid. Pages 180-181.
