Container Summary
1 AL (copy) from Washington Irving (1783-1859), U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846), to Luis Gonzalez Bravo (1811-1871), congratulating him on being appointed Spanish Minister of State and Foreign Affairs. Sent from Madrid. Page 150. Irving had returned from leave in France to his post in Madrid on 11/30/1843 (Ralph M. Aderman, Ed., et al, "The Complete Works of Washington Irving: Letters, Volume III, 1839-1845 (Boston: Twayne, 1982), p. xxxvi). This letter does not appear to be in the hand of Irving. Rather, it appears to be in the same hand as the copyist who wrote all of the letters from Alexander Hamilton Jr. Letters 73-94 all appear to have been written in the hand of the same person.
