Upshur (1790-1844), U.S. Secretary of State (7/24/1843-2/28/1844), reporting on Spanish politics. References to Washington Irving's illness, Irving's leave in France, the upcoming session of the Cortes, and Queen Isabella II. Sent from Madrid to Washington, D.C. Pages 138-140. The handwriting of this letter and of subsequent letters from Alexander Hamilton Jr. does not appear to match the handwriting of letters 1-50 in this letterbook, nor does it appear to match the handwriting of letters 51-64 in this letterbook.
