1 ALS in hand of Washington Irving dated 7/11/1843 from Irving (1783-1859), U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846), to Maximo de Aguirre, U.S. Consul at Bilbao (Spain), suggesting that Aguirre continue on as consul until his resignation were accepted by the U.S. Secretary of State. Aguirre had just been unwillingly appointed Alcalde Constitutional in the Provincial Ayuntiameniento in Bilbao. Sent from Madrid. Pages 115-116.
