1 ALS in hand of Washington Irving dated 7/10/1843 from Irving (1783-1859), U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846), to Olegario de los Cuetos (d. 1844), head of Spanish Ministry of State, with discussion of a pardon for Captain Love Straw. References to Governor John Fairfield of Maine, Albert Smith (1793-1867, U.S. Congressman from Maine 1839-1841), and Daniel Deshon of Boston (who had been robbed by Straw). Sent from Madrid.
