1 AL (copy) dated 12/5/1842 from Washington Irving (1783-1859), U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846), to Daniel Webster (1782-1852), U.S. Secretary of State (1841-1843), with lengthy discussion of the case of the "Amistad" and the payment of Spanish debts to the U.S. References to Count Almodovar, Pedro Alcantara Argaiz (the Chevalier D'Argaiz), Geronimo Valdes y Sierra (Intendente of Cuba), and Robert B. Campbell. Irving requests that Webster send him copies of the reports of the U.S. Supreme Court, including those relevant to the "Amistad" case. Sent from Madrid to Washington, D.C. Pages 52-56.
